NFLThe annual scramble for the last remaining quarterback positions in the National Football League for the 2014 season is underway. There are teams with established high dollar quarterbacks set in place like Brady with the Pats and Brees with the Saints. Then there are some other teams that are in dire straits to come up with a good signal caller for the upcoming season.

Former Houston Texan quarterback Matt Schaub has ended up with the Raiders and speculation abounds that the Texans will take one of the available quarterbacks in the NFL Draft in May. In fact there are billboards up in the Houston area prodding the team to pick local hero Johnny Manziel. In the meantime, the Texans acquired Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Titans just in case.

The Jets have made the boldest move so far by cutting quarterback Mark Sanchez and signing Michael Vick away from the Eagles. Vick will now be competing with second year QB Geno Smith, who has yet to prove his value in the NFL.  Geno might not be too happy about Vick’s arrival, but at least some of the spotlight will be taken off of him for awhile.

Of course Vick is still trying to work his way out from under his conviction for fighting dogs and the New York press jumped on that one right away. ‘The Vick of the Litter’ said one. Let’s hope that he is past all that. Michael Vick is a multi-talented quarterback who can make a major difference in the Jets future.

Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, even went to Roger Goodell and Eagles owner Jeff Lurie before hiring Vick. “We’ve checked… we’ve talked to everyone.  Commissioner Goodell, I had one conversation with him about Mike. I think he’ll be a real positive to help us get better. Not only at the quarterback position but also as a team”.

QB Jason Campbell has left the Cleveland Browns and moved over to Cincinnati to play for the Bengals on a one year deal and Brandon Weeden also left the Browns for the Dallas Cowboys.

One of the most positive moves made by any team was the acquisition of Josh McCown who did such a great job for the Bears last year at quarterback by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their new head coach Lovie Smith. Of course Lovie had worked with McCown when he was in Chicago so the move should not come as too much of a surprise.
