NY Yankees LogoThe Detroit Tigers put on a display of power in the fourth inning of Game 4 of the ALCS on Thursday afternoon.  Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera knocked in a two run strike scoring Omar Infante only to be followed right away  by another 2 run homer by Sort Stop Jhonny Peralta scoring Delmon Young and making the score 6-1 after 4.  After 9 innings the Tigers took the game and the series by a score of 8 to

Amidst myriad personnel problems and injuries throughout the club, the mighty New York Yankees have fallen from grace and will not be going to the World Series again this year.  After leading the league for practically the entire 1202 season, the year has come to an end for the New York Yankees at the hands of a determined and talented Detroit Tiger team.

Yankees Manager Joe Girardi has juggled his lineup throughout the postseason, trying to find the right combination to win games but he has some major personnel problems that surely affected the Yankees performance and spoiling their chances to compete in this year’s World Series which begins on October 24.

Alex Rodriguez was only 3 for 23 in this postseason and was out of the lineup for the third time in New York’s nine playoff games. The star third baseman also has been pulled for a pinch hitter three times.  The 37-year-old slugger with 647 career home runs didn’t like his seat in the dugout.

Yankees All Pro Shortstop Derek Jeter, who fractured his left ankle in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Tigers Sunday, will have surgery to repair the damage. According to MLB.com, he’ll need 4-5 months to recover.

Robinson Cano has been a disaster so far this postseason, going hitless in 26 straight at-bats following his 0-for-4 performance in Game 2 of the ALCS against the Tigers Sunday. That’s a record for a single postseason. Overall, he’s 2 for 32 (.063) for the playoffs.

Curtis Granderson was not in the opening lineup for Game 4 of the ALCS but he was brought on during the seventh inning.  Yankee skipper Joe Girardi has made it clear this postseason that he’s perfectly willing to bench his starters if they are no playing up to expectations.  Granderson went 0-for-10 with six strikeouts in the first three games of the series and is 3-for-29 this postseason.

Nick Swisher has a .154/.233/.192 batting line in 26 postseason at-bats this year, he almost did not start game four of the series but in the sixth inning Swisher doubled to right and earned an RBI batting in Nunez who crossed home to score the Yankees only run of the contest.

Detroit now has 6 days to rest up before taking on the winner of the San Francisco-St. Louis  National League series. The first game of the World Series is set to go on October 24 in either San Francisco or St. Louis.
